The new addition includes a new full size gymnasium with bleachers, cafeteria, 2 classrooms, a computer lab and new library.

Pittsburgh Sterrett Principal Sarah Sumpter and guests cut the ribbon during grand opening celebration
On Monday, Pittsburgh Sterrett students, parents, teachers, staff and community celebrated the school’s new 25,000 square foot addition with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
The new addition includes a new full size gymnasium with bleachers, cafeteria, 2 classrooms, a computer lab and new library. The school’s former gym and library have been converted into a science lab, classroom, teachers’ lounge and conference room.
On hand to celebrate the new addition were Board Members Randall Taylor and Thomas Sumpter, Superintendent Mark Roosevelt, City Council Members William Peduto and Rev. Ricky V. Burgess. Principal Sarah Sumpter served as emcee for the event.

Volunteers from Carlow University, in a joint initiative with Amizade, are painting a world map mural on the blue wall that is opposite the gold wall near the same office in the Reizenstein facility. Now that the countries are painted, a group of 10th grade MYP students are working with Amizade volunteers to fill in other details like the names of the countries.
They recently had a school from Munich visit and they have made an initial offer to host students in June. This is a program through the German American Partnership Program.
The Division of Finance received the Association of School Business Officials International Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award. ASBO International created the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting program to enable school business officials to achieve a high standard of financial reporting. (more…)
Nine PPS high school students have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. Congratulations to Pittsburgh Allderdice seniors Molly Brean, Catherine Cobetto, Matthew Cummings, Sam Gutkind, Zara Koong-Karuman, Eric Levine, Joshua Safyan and Miriam Shiffman, and Pittsburgh CAPA senior Jeremy Malvin. Semifinalists were chosen based on their performance on the PSAT MSQT exam.
Mark Steidl of Pittsburgh Carmalt received the Yes I Can! Award in the technology category from the Council for Exceptional Children for his use of technology in and out of the classroom. (more…)

Pittsburgh Concord K-5 and Pittsburgh Stevens K-8 were First in Math champions for Pittsburgh Public Schools. First in Math is a fast-paced, engaging Web site that challenges students to solve problems from simple addition through multi-step algebra, and for each three problems solved, the competitors earn virtual First in Math award stickers.
