Several Pittsburgh Career and Technical Education (CTE) students recently participated in the District 9 Skills USA competition held January 20 and 21, 2009 at Central Westmoreland Career Center and the Somerset Career and Technical Center. Pittsburgh Oliver to Compete on KDKAs Hometown High Q

This Saturday, January 24, 2009, Pittsburgh Oliver High School will compete against Woodland Hills and Penns Manor High Schools on KDKA’s Hometown High Q. The show hosted by KDKA-TV’s Ken “The Quiz Master” Rice will air at 11:00 a.m. Be sure to tune and support Pittsburgh Oliver as they represent the Pittsburgh Public Schools.

Board Members Recognized for Service

The Pennsylvania School Boards Association has proclaimed January School Director Recognition Month. School Directors are elected locally and all serve without pay. Tonight Superintendent Mark Roosevelt recognized the District’s School Board Members for their service to the District, with the presentation of the book “Miss. New Accelerated Learning Academy Calendar Reduces Extended School Year from 10 to 8 Days and Length of Day by 16 Minutes

The 2009-10 calendar for the District’s eight Accelerated Learning Academies (ALAs) shortens the school day by 16 minutes and eliminates the last two days of school. The Board approved changes to the Accelerated Learning Academy calendar at this evening’s Legislative Meeting. (more…)

A day of remembrance and celebration at Pittsburgh Manchester

Students assembled in the morning to participate in a professional interactive dramatization of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by Gregory G. Kenney. The dramatization brought to life four of Dr. King’s powerful speeches. The message highlighted by the production framed the importance of today’s event and set the stage for the viewing of the inauguration of President Obama. (more…)
