Western Pennsylvania Conservancy to Add Greenery to the Grounds of all Pittsburgh Public Schools

Students of Pittsburgh Public Schools will enjoy greener school grounds and will have more opportunities to interact with nature through a new School Grounds Greening Initiative, to be implemented by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) through a $1.5 million grant from the Grable Foundation.

Pittsburgh Westinghouse wins Girls City League Basketball Championship

The girls championship offered a well played exciting match up between two perennial powerhouses of City League Basketball. Westinghouse outdueled Schenley for the second time in two years coming back from an early deficit to defeat the Spartans 56-50. (more…)

Pittsburgh Perry wins City League Boys Basketball Championship

The Pittsburgh Public Schools/City League basketball championships took place yesterday at the A.J. Palumbo Center located on the campus of Duquesne University. An estimated crowd of 1500 were dazzled by electrifying passes and slam dunks as the Allderdice Dragons took on the Perry Commodores in the boys championship match up. Perry took an early lead and never looked back defeating the Dragons 61-35. (more…)

Two Pittsburgh Public School students nominated for 1250 ESPN Army Athlete of the Week

1250 ESPN Radio has named Markel Walker of Pittsburgh Schenley High School and Shalonda Winton of Pittsburgh Westinghouse High School candidates for 1250 ESPN’s Army Athlete of the Week. Each week 1250 ESPN Radio names four local area high school athletes as candidates for this award. The winner is decided by voting that takes place exclusively on www.1250ESPN.com.

Voting lasts for one week and starts on Friday, February 26th at around noon. The winner will be announced March 5th on 1250espn.com as well as at 2:50PM on 1250 ESPN Radio.

Vote now for your favorite Army Athlete of the Week page at  ESPN Radio’s website.
1250 ESPN will present a plaque to each winner and thier respective High School at a time to be named later.

Pittsburgh Oliver and Pittsburgh Perry students hear Governors plan for Tuition Relief

A group of Pittsburgh Oliver and Pittsburgh Perry students and their families were in the audience when Governor Edward Rendell visited Community College of Allegheny County on February 18 to talk about his proposal for a Tuition Relief Fund.

At the end of the conference, a few students had the opportunity to ask the Governor questions about the plan.
