Bethany Hospice in Greentree shows generous support of Whale Done program at Pittsburgh Schaeffer

Linda Peterson and the staff of Bethany Hospice in Greentree visited Pittsburgh Schaeffer Primary on August 27, 2009 and brought with them more than 100 brand new backpacks, 100 brand new pencil boxes, and other miscellaneous school supplies for our students. Bethany Hospice has been a community partner of Schaeffer Primary since the fall of 2008. The generous staff members have been strong supporters of our “Whale Done” positive-reinforcement program, and wanted the Schaeffer Shining Stars to start off the school year with all of the necessary tools to Dream Big and Work Hard. Pittsburgh Public Schools is inviting its students and community to help name the District’s exciting new summer camp that will launch in 2010 for students currently in grades fifth, sixth and seventh. This is the first time a summer camp will be provided exclusively for middle grades students.

Get ready for the new season of the Pittsburgh Public Schools television program

The season premiere of “Excellence for All: Presented by the Pittsburgh Public Schools” focuses on the “Pathways to the Promise.” Pathways to the Promise are the steps we are taking to ensure every student is Promise Ready. This show first debuted on Wednesday August 26, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 13, Pittsburgh’s Government Access Channel. The show will re-air every day at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., with a new program airing the last Wednesday of every month.

Pittsburgh Public Schools Invites Students and Community to Help Name New Summer Camp for Students in Grades 6-8

Pittsburgh Public Schools is inviting its students and community to help name the District’s exciting new summer camp that will launch in 2010 for students currently in grades fifth, sixth and seventh. This is the first time a summer camp will be provided exclusively for middle grades students. The camp is part of the continued district-wide effort to prepare students for the rigors of high school and beyond. This new exciting summer camp will be funded by Stimulus Funds the District will receive as a part of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Signed into law on February 17, 2009, ARRA recognizes that strategic investments in education are one of the best ways to help America become more productive and competitive over the long haul.

Pittsburgh Public Schools to Hold Special Transition Activities to Welcome New Students of the 9th Grade Nation, Class of 2013

Beginning September 2, 2009, Pittsburgh Public Schools will provide a special welcome to more than 2,100 new ninth grade students with special activities as part of the 9th Grade Nation Transition Program. All Other High School Students to have Four-Hour Delayed Start on First Day of School September 3, 2009.
