On Friday October 9, students, families and staff from Pittsburgh Arlington, along with The Heart of America Foundation® and Target Volunteers, celebrated the unveiling of its newly renovated library. As part of the Target Volunteers School Library Makeover program, Pittsburgh Arlington PreK-8 received a complete transformation this summer, including 2,000 new books, technology, paint, lighting, carpet, shelving, customized wall art and murals, as well as reading corners – all just in time for the new school year. Pittsburgh Schiller Students Meet Author D.J. MacHale

D.J. MacHale came to Pittsburgh Schiller to share his experiences of being an author and screen writer with the students. His credits included the shows Ghostwriter, Are You Afraid of the Dark and Flight 29 Down. He also shared the various stories of his Pendragon Adventure series. He encouraged the students never to give up on what they want to do and not to accept “NO” as an answer. All students had their Pendragon books signed. (more…)

Students in Pittsburgh Public Schools Welding Program Tour Local #154 Boilermakers Apprenticeship Training Center

On October 20, 2009 seniors from the Pittsburgh Public Schools Welding Program toured the Local #154 Boilermakers Apprenticeship Training Center. Strong partnerships are paramount in providing opportunity and Excellence for All. Students were treated to a tour of the facilities, witnessed demonstrations, and gained extensive insight into what it takes to successfully become a Boilermaker. (more…)

Art Contest for students in grades 9-12 announced by Allegheny County Immunization Coalition

The “Community Immunity” Art contest sponsored by the Allegheny County Immunization Coalition offers finalists an exhibition at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh from December 4 to 10. The winners will be announced on the final day of the show, and prizes will include scholarships to the Art Institute and a cash prize for top place. Entries are due November 12, 2009.

New WQED TV Show, Science Mission 101, searches out new generation of scientists

Guthrie Gintzler, a sophomore at Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, is one of six Pittsburgh-area students co-starring in the pilot episode of WQED-TV’s “Science Mission 101.” The program premieres on Thursday, November 12 at 8:00pm on WQED-TV, with replay dates listed below.
