Pittsburgh Public Schools to Become Tobacco and Smoke Free

Revised Smoking Policy Prohibits Tobacco Use at All Times Throughout the District
The air around the Pittsburgh Public Schools will be a little cleaner as the District goes completely smoke free. As a part of the District’s commitment to ensuring safe and welcoming environments for all students, beginning February 2, 2010, tobacco use will be prohibited at all times inside and outside school buildings.

Pittsburgh City Council announces January 26, 2010 “Dancing Classrooms Day”

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

In honor of the Pittsburgh City Council proclaiming Tuesday, January 26, 2010 as Dancing Classrooms Day, winning students from the “Colors of the Rainbow” dance competition performed at the City-County Building. The gold medal winners were from Pittsburgh Phillips K-5 and the silver medal winners were from Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5 and Pittsburgh Spring Hill PreK-5.

Winner of Spell Down spelling bee moves ahead to city-wide contest

Pittsburgh Minadeo 5th grader Josephine Friedman won the school’s second annual Spell Down spelling bee.The winning word was “article.” This year there were 29 participants from the 4th and 5th grades. Josephine will now move on to the city spelling bee to be held on March 10, 2010 at Children’s Hospital. (more…)

District to Hold North Region Community Forum to Discuss Recommendations Regarding the Morrow and Rooney Facilities

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 – 6:30-8:30 PM Pittsburgh Public Schools will hold a North Region Community Forum to discuss District recommendations for serving academic needs of students and families that focuses on the Morrow and Rooney facilities. District staff will open the community forum with a brief presentation about facilities use and academic opportunities related to the Morrow and Rooney facilities, followed by a Q&A session for the public. This forum will be held at the Pittsburgh Project, Dining Hall, 2801 North Charles Street (Perry South), Pittsburgh PA 15214. (more…)
