Pittsburgh Manchester PTA celebrates Black History Month

The Pittsburgh Manchester PTA celebrated Black History Month with an afternoon of community events hosted at the school. The well attended event began with a delicious “Soul Food Sampler” by award-winning Chef Kevin McGuire. Following lunch there were sessions and offerings for all ages.

Some of the activities included: jewelry making taught by Wallace Sapp, community discussion groups led by PTA members, DARE coordinated by City of Pittsburgh Police, Spoken word Open Microphone facilitated by Public Allies that featured middle school students reading the poetry of African American authors, Visual Voices Creative Art Project through the University of Pittsburgh, and an open market of local artists. The afternoon was rounded out by a keynote address from the Honorable Judge Joseph K. Williams, III.
