NFL Network Teams Up with PPS, Comcast and the Steelers to Unveil New Physical Education Equipment and Facilities at Pittsburgh Arsenal

NFL Network teamed up with Pittsburgh Public Schools, Comcast and the Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday, September 28 to officially inaugurate newly-refurbished Physical Education facilities at Arsenal 6-8 in Pittsburgh made possible by the Keep Gym in School program.

Student Image Selected to Represent Theme for 4th Annual PPS Megaconference

Image submitted by 8th grader Jennifer Hickey at Pittsburgh South Hills 6-8 was selected to represent the theme for the 4th annual Pittsburgh Public Schools Megaconference. The committee chose this image because it best represented our region, our students, and this years theme: School 2.0.

Pittsburgh CAPA Students publish online portfolios

Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 student web portfolios are now online, hosted by the Pittsburgh Board of Education. This is a great opportunity for the students to showcase their work and use during portfolio reviews when applying for grants or scholarships to the prestigious (and too often expensive!) art schools our students attend. Enjoy and congratulate the students on a job well done.

District Earns $39.5 Million National Reform Grant

U.S. Department of Education funding will support District’s bold initiatives to empower effective teachers and improve student outcomes

Pittsburgh Public Schools today received a grant award of $39.5 million* from the U.S. Department of Education’s 2010 Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) program.

*Shortly after this release was sent the Federal Department of Education revised its TIF grant award amounts.  The revised amount awarded to the District is $37,368,432.00.

Back to Football Friday raised $450 for Pittsburgh Promise

Central Office Staff helped to raise $450 for the Pittsburgh PromiseTM last Friday during their Back to Football Friday event as part of the NFL’s and The United Way’s joint effort to spread the word about the importance of healthy lifestyles and physical fitness.

Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy Grand Opening a Success

Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy staff, students, parents, District representatives and community members  celebrated the official grand opening of the newly renovated school on Tuesday night.  A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to commemorate the completion of the year-long project which renovated the existing 86-year-old building into a new state-of-the-art science and technology facility.

District’s New Middle School Book Club Promises to Wow Students

The Pittsburgh Public Schools will be introducing a new book club for middle grade students and their parents on Thursday, September 16th called Operation Wow! The club’s first meeting will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the library in Pittsburgh Obama 6-12.
