Pittsburgh Oliver High School French students are raising money to go to Guadeloupe, a French-speaking overseas region of France located in the Caribbean. While in Guadeloupe, students will have the opportunity to practice French and explore the island’s landscape, culture, and cuisine. The students have been studying French for three years and are working hard to make this dream come true. (more…)
Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 student, Brieanna Gerner, is one of 250 outstanding middle school students from across the United States that will take part in an extraordinary leadership conference in Washington, D.C. Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) introduces young people to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American history, while helping them to develop their own leadership skills. In an effort to get active and raise money for the Pittsburgh Promise®, PPS is organizing a dedicated group of runners and walkers to participate in the Pittsburgh Marathon! Over twenty participants will tackle the 26.2 miles either on their own or as part of a relay group. Three students from Pittsburgh South Hills Middle School were chosen as winners in the “Expressions of Freedom” writing contest sponsored by Citizens Bank in partnership with PPS, New Pittsburgh Courier, WPXI and KISS-FM. (more…)
11th Grade PSSA Exams Provide Students Opportunity to Earn Additional Scholarship Award
The Board of Directors of The Pittsburgh Promise has approved doubling the potential amount of Promise scholarships from a possible maximum of $20,000 to a possible maximum of $40,000 per student over the course of a four-year higher education program. The Pittsburgh Public Schools’ Class of 2012 – this year’s 11th graders – will be the first students to be eligible for up to $20,000 in additional scholarship support from The Promise, bringing the total scholarship potential to $40,000 (up to $10,000 per year).
