Come watch Pittsburgh Public School judo athletes participate in the Zaffuto Memorial Judo Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 27 hosted by Perry Traditional Academy
This past Sunday five Pittsburgh Perry Traditional Academy students won honors at the 17th Annual Rock and Roll Judo Tournament in Lodi, Ohio, including two gold medals by sophomore Dashawn Dixon and a silver medal and Best Technique Trophy by sophomore Nathan Porter.
Dixon won gold in his own division, Boys 15 & 16 Year-Old Lightweight, then competed “up” a weight class and won gold in the Boys 15 & 16 Year-Old Middleweight division. Porter won silver in the Boys 15 & 16 Year-Old Light-Heavyweight division, and won the tournament’s Best Technique Trophy with a perfectly executed “tai otoshi (tie-oh-TOE-she),” or body-drop, throw on his opponent in the second round that drew enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
Perry freshman Antwan McKamey won silver in the Boys 13 &14 Year-Old Lightweight division; sophomore Marquan Morris won bronze in the Boys 15 & 16 Year-Old Middleweight division, and freshman Nick Tivo won bronze in the Boys Light-Middleweight division.
