“MJ ROCKS!” Concert features every student at Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5

On Friday, June 4, 2010 at 1:30 p.m.Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5 performed a show entitled “MJ ROCKS!” that will feature every student who attends the school. The concert included dancing, singing and acting to several of Michael Jackson’s most popular songs such as “ABC”, “I Want You Back”, “Rock With You”, “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”, “Beat It”, “Thriller”, and “Keep the Faith” was the Finale. This timely concert honored the pop music icon Michael Jackson, almost a year after his death on June 25, 2009.

Pittsburgh Allegheny 4-5 Grade Choral Ensemble wins Best Elementary Chorus for 6th year in a row

On May 22, the 4-5 Grade Choral Ensemble from Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5 participated in a music adjudication festival where they won 1st place in the treble choir division and the trophy for the best overall Elementary Chorus. Pittsburgh Allegheny has now participated in the festival for 6 years in a row, and every year the ensemble has won the overall Elementary Chorus trophy. (more…)

Free Clinic for School Vaccinations needed in the Fall

Get shots for next school year out of the way and enjoy the Summer! Immunize now and become eligible for a buy-one-get-one pass for County Pools this Summer.

The Allegheny County Health Department is holding a special free vaccination clinic on Tuesday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., for children who need to get caught up with the vaccines that will be required when they return to school in the fall.

The clinic, to be held at the Health Department’s office at 3441 Forbes Avenue in Oakland, will provide free parking after 4:30 p.m. in the lot behind 3333 Forbes Avenue. No appointment is necessary and parents should bring their child’s vaccination records to the clinic. (more…)

Pittsburgh Public Schools to Kick-Off 2010 World Arts & Cultures Showcase

An All City Celebration of the Arts in Pittsburgh Public Schools
An afternoon festival of music concerts and performances on Saturday, May 8, featuring the District’s most talented musicians, will kick off the Pittsburgh Public Schools 2010 World Arts & Cultures Showcase. District students from the Centers for the Musically Talented and All-City music groups will perform and refreshments will be served at the public reception from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 located at 111 Ninth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. The Showcase is a week-long celebration of the arts in the Pittsburgh Public Schools from Saturday, May 8 until the final reception and Awards Ceremony on the evening of Thursday, May 13. The events of the week will feature the District’s best visual artists and stage performers in grades K -12.

Marathon Relay Team exceeds initial fundraising target for Pittsburgh Promise, rallies for new donation goal

There’s less than one week to go until the Pittsburgh Marathon and the Pittsburgh Promise runners have been training hard for the big day.  Thanks so much to all of you who have supported the Promise by making a contribution on our team website!  If you would like to make a contribution, you can still do so at http://www.firstgiving.com/ppsThe team has exceeded the initial goal of $2,500 and is now aiming for $5,000.  UPMC will match $1.00 for every $1.50 that is contributed to The Pittsburgh Promise. Pittsburgh City Council announces January 26, 2010 “Dancing Classrooms Day”

In honor of the Pittsburgh City Council proclaiming Tuesday, January 26, 2010 as Dancing Classrooms Day, winning students from the “Colors of the Rainbow” dance competition performed at the City-County Building. The gold medal winners were from Pittsburgh Phillips K-5 and the silver medal winners were from Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5 and Pittsburgh Spring Hill PreK-5.
