Mifflin P.R.I.D.E.

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

The 2012-2013 school year is off and running at Pittsburgh Mifflin after an incredibly warm summer.  The school is already filled with student work; the hallways are colorful and welcoming.  There is something unique that is noticeably different this school year; the words “Mifflin P.R.I.D.E” cover the school.

Posters of the saying can be found in and outside of all of the classrooms.  So what is Mifflin P.R.I.D.E?  It is the newly created behavioral incentive that the school has implemented to motivate all students to make good choices and become promise ready.  The program was created by a group of teachers, staff, and administrator during the summer.  The acronym stands for Promise Ready through Integrity, Determination, and Effort.

The program utilizes P.R.I.D.E. Points that are earned and exchanged at the new school store allowing students to shop bi-weekly for showing Mifflin P.R.I.D.E.  The student’s favorite part of the program is the weekly pep rallies that take place first thing in the morning every Monday.  At each rally teachers prepare an agenda of exciting activities, games, and opportunities for the kids to start their week off on the right foot.  At the rally’s teachers also give shout outs for students that recently demonstrated Mifflin P.R.I.D.E.  The students love to hear their names ring through the auditorium and gymnasium for getting recognition for hard work.  It has been an exciting year so far and it seems that the Mifflin P.R.I.D.E program is really generating some positive feedback!
