The Pittsburgh Promise Issues 2012 Report to the Community

PITTSBURGH, September 27, 2012 – The Pittsburgh Promise today issued its fourth annual report to the community. The report highlights the program’s impact on the first four-year college graduating class of Promise Scholars, its progress in influencing both high school and college retention rates, as well as its role in promoting urban education reform. The annual report also previewed new promotional campaigns featuring Promise Scholars in the workplace, ads to attract Latinos to Pittsburgh, and a real estate outreach effort featuring the $40,000 Promise scholarship benefit for city homeowners who send their children to Pittsburgh Public Schools. PITTSBURGH, May 17, 2012 –Hundreds of fathers across     Pittsburgh took their children to school today.  Instead of dropping them off and waving goodbye, they headed inside the buildings.  Fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other adult males who have made an impact in the life of a Pittsburgh Public Schools student participated in various activities, such as field day, story time, arts and crafts and career talks. Current Students Can Now Access Transcripts Online with New Docufide Service

April 7, 2012 – Docufide provides Pittsburgh Public Schools students an easy way to access, review, and mail transcripts to post-secondary institutions and employers to expedite the application process. This secure service is provided through Docufide, an online tool offered through a partnership with www.Parchment.com.

Current high school students can register online and request transcripts for colleges and universities, athletic organizations, scholarship funds, future employers or any other organization requiring verification of your transcripts.

Once completed, students can request transcripts from the registrar and have the assurance of delivery to all requested destinations.

August Wilson Center for African American Culture accepting video applications for Youth Talent Showcase 2012

PITTSBURGH, PA, April 17, 2012 – The August Wilson Center for African American Culture (AWC), is hosting a Youth Talent Showcase as part of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board’s, “Imagine! Guest Grocery Baggers’ School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lane and Saleem Ghubril from The Pittsburgh Promise to ‘Bag and Gab’ about The Promise at the Shadyside Market District

Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Linda Lane and Pittsburgh Promise Executive Director Saleem Ghubril will volunteer as “guest grocery baggers” to support the current in-store, at-the register promotion for shoppers to make donations to The Pittsburgh Promise, a scholarship program aimed at removing the financial barrier to higher education for eligible students graduating from the Pittsburgh Public Schools. From 12 noon - 1 p.m. this Saturday, April 14, at the Shadyside Market District, Dr. Lane and Mr. Ghubril will begin guest bagging and talking with customers about the scholarship program for city school graduates.  The Shadyside Market District is located at 550 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
