The Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science is a regional competition; it involves schools from all over Southwestern PA, and encourages science for 7-12th graders. First place finishers are invited to compete at the state competition every May up at Penn State in State College. This year, the Pittsburgh Public Schools were represented by Allderdice, CAPA, SciTech, Obama, Colfax, Carmalt and Sterrett.
Here they are, 22 fantastic representatives for Pittsburgh Colfax. Between them 6 first places, 12 seconds, and 4 third places were earned. A first for this year, Vandana George earned the perfect score and two awards from Westinghouse Women in Nuclear Engineering, and the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Chemical Society for her work on Soap Dispersion of Water Molecules.
Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Colfax winners, as well as all the students who competed!
