Pittsburgh Oliver Students vs. Staff Basketball Game

It was another great day at Pittsburgh Oliver High School. On Friday April 3, 2009, Pittsburgh Oliver engaged in a Staff vs. Students basketball game to cap off March Madness. This was a beautiful event. The staff squad was comprised of instructors, security, and providers. The student squad had members of our basketball teams, student council and ROTC. Special thanks go to Ms. Grice and Officer Harrell for their help and hard work. Oliver students had a chance to see their educator’s human side while sharing a wonderful afternoon. The only frown’s were on the faces of the staff as we lost 59 to 57. (more…)

Teacher and girls basketball coach Phyllis Jones was selected as one of the New Pittsburgh Courier’s 50 Women of Excellence for 2008

Nominated by the paper’s readers, the Women of Excellence recognizes and introduces the contributions of African- American women on the Pittsburgh community. Jones, who has been girls basketball coach since 1990, has led her teams to eight City championships. She has received two national coaching awards and more than 30 of her players have gone on to careers in teaching, coaching and community service.
